Two-Time Defending Champions Debbie Does Dynasty? The Winter Season Dodgeball playoffs have finally arrived, and anticipation about how the playoff bracket will shake out this week is at an all time high! With a record 18 teams in the field to begin the first season of 2010, only 10 teams survived the rigorous 12 game regular season schedule and confirmed their SSC postseason dodgeball plans. We also have our own 5 D’s of dodgball this season in the form of the top 3 contenders for the Winter Championship – Dodgebrawlers, Deep, (balls deep) and Debbie Does Dodgeball. These three teams come into the playoffs as the top 3 seeds respectively, and are heavy favorites to be the last team standing at the end of Wednesday night.Weapons of Mass Seduction begins the first round with a week 3 rematch against Prestige Worldwide in which Seduction won 4-2. The reward for the winner of this contest is a quarterfinal matchup with top seed and undefeated Dodgebrawlers. The other opening game features DTF and Slingin Balls. DTF is reeling after dropping 5 of their last 6 games after beginning the their campaign a perfect 6-0 after 3 weeks, and Slingin Balls may be a dangerous opponent as they come into the playoffs as the #10 seed and sport a nothing to lose relaxed demeanor. One loss and #2 seed Balls Deep awaits the winner of this game. The other two quarterfinal matchups are already set, and both are very intriguing contest. Los Escrubs will try to get into the semi-finals after dropping heart breakers during the quarterfinal rounds the past two seasons; however, Black Sheep stands in their way and is eager to prove they are much better than their 3-3 record to end the season indicates. The next matchup preview brings us to Debbie Does Dodgeball vs. Hoo Hoo Shield. The Shield may be a little tired from their 6:30 softball game, but this team will not be an easy out even for the defending champions. Debbie is the winner of the last two SSC Dodge Championships and will look to rattle off 3 straight wins this week to complete their quest for a Dynasty. For the first time in recent memory Debbie does not enter the playoffs as the hands down favorite to win it all. Will this add extra pressure to the squad to prove they are still the elite team in this league, or alleviate some of the nerves associated with having such extreme expectations year in and year out? Don’t forget that registration closes this week for Bowling, Indoor Volleyball, and Flag Football. Spring Kickball and Sand Volleyball are also now open for both team and individual registration.
