Scrub Sox Getting Back into the Swing of Things With half of the Spring I Softball Season now in the books, the league is beginning to ascertain which teams will threaten for the championship this season. In the Tuesday division, the Scrub Sox are showing they can consistently win close games. The Sox now own a perfect 3-0 record and have yet to win a game by more than 4 runs. Considering their past and how well they are looking this season, a playoff berth is almost a lock at this point. They will face the red hot Stiff Bats, Soft Balls next week, who are coming off 2 straight wins after a week one heartbreaking 8-6 loss. The Louisville Chuggers and Lookin to Score join the Sox at the top of the standings, with both teams also 3-0 at the season halfway point. Looking to Score may just have the most prolific offense in the entire SSC, as they are averaging over 18 runs a contest. This will be a dangerous team in the playoffs if their high octane bats can continue to crush the ball like they have done the first three weeks. We also have some other Tuesday teams are not threatening for the #1 seed, but are hoping to finish the regular season in top 8 and make it to the playoffs. The Wolfpack used their Sunday makeup game to get their first win of the season, beating the Bounce Backs 12-5. The Pack will face the Multiple Scoregasms next Tuesday, a team that has moved to 2-1 after dropping their opening night game. A Wolfpack win in this one, will catapult them right back into the thick of the playoff race. The Heat are also a team to keep your eye on over the next three weeks. With arguably the toughest schedule in the league through three games, The Heat have gone a very respectable 2-1 in that stretch and have a much more favorable schedule down the stretch. The Wednesday night league is just as competitive this season, with the last place teams still just 1.5 games out of a playoff spot. Beginning at the top of the standings, Tigers Hate Cinnamon have been loading up on pepper while pushing their record to 3-0. This team scores runs in bunches, however it is their defense that has been even more head-turning. The Tigers are giving up a paltry 2.6 runs per game at the midpoint of the season. The Drunken Seagulls and Alchoballics join the Tigers as the only other teams with a 3-0 record. Both teams need to be careful this Wednesday in possible trap games, as many are already looking ahead to their blockbuster St. Patrick’s Day matchup. The Bad News Beers are not a team the Alchoballics can take lightly this week. The Beers have ripped off two consecutive dominating performances, and win this week over an undefeated first place team would put them right back into the championship conversation. No Glove No Love is also undefeated (2 wins; 1 tie) and in the hunt for one of the top two seeds for the postseason. Most importantly, No Glove will not have to face any of the other undefeated teams until the single elimination postseason. Where my Pitches at got their first win of the year by knocking off previously unbeaten Pulled Hammy & Geez by a 7-5 count. Where my pitches at easily has the highest strength of schedule, as their three opponents faced have a combined 8-1 record. The Slutty Sluggers were again the hard-luck losers as they lost 8-6 to Scored Last Night in a battle of winless teams. The Sluggers have now lost two of their games by 3 runs total, including in a one run loss in the opening week. This week’s game against Where my Pitches at might be their best chance to get their first W of the year, as the undefeated Tigers and Seagulls pay a visit in weeks 5 & 6.
