Teams packed Rusty Lyons on a windy summer night as we squeezed nine games into a single night in Week Two of summer softball. Some high scoring games highlighted the night as teams watched, cheered and laughed at times as they enjoyed the cold Bud Light and kept the sand from gusting in their eyes and cold ones.
The Purple Cobras came ready to rock as they took on the Dirty Dozen, and right after rocking out for five runs in the top of the first, Dirty Dozen quickly answered and maxed out their run total in the bottom half of the first inning with nine runs to take control of the game. That control lasted only a few minutes as Purple Cobras grabbed the lead back on the heels of a six run inning. Eleven runs is good enough to make team feel good, but for Purple Cobras they faced a high powered Dirty Dozen offense that made a lot of noise in bottom half to take control of the game with another nine run output to go up for good as they did not allow another run to the Purple Cobras as a wild game came to conclusion. Final, 18-11, Dirty.
From a high flyer to a nail biter Bench Warmers and Stirista gave us a thrilling back and forth game that ended with a climactic walk-off. After a three spot in the top of the first, Bench Warmers allowed Stirista to throw four up there in the bottom half as they looked sweep their double header. Without missing a beat, they added a deuce in the second inning to pad their lead, but then, their bats fell silent as Bench Warmers chipped away at the lead to tie it up in the top of the fifth inning while looking to spoil the Stirista sweep. In the bottom half, the most unusual walk off took place as with two outs, Stirista showed patience at the plate and it paid off as they paced themselves to a walk off walk to sweep their double header and frustrate Bench Warmers to no end. Luckily the cooler was full of cold ones and dang if that doesn’t take the sting out of a loss.
