Home Run Derby! (Monday’s)

The Jerks

Things continued to cool down at Rusty Lyons as the fall will soon turn to winter, but the action on the diamonds stayed as hot as it’s been the entire season. Once again we had a clash between many top teams as the playoff picture begins to take form. With one more week to go after last night, teams that are on the bubble will get one last chance to make their case for the playoffs in early December.

Our spotlight team this week is no stranger to the front page and is a staple in our Monday night league. While their season has not gone the way they had hope, they nonetheless provide their opponent each week with a tough test, and this week was no different. Stirista needed a win to stay at the second spot in the standings. They got their night off to a good start with two runs to break the ice. They limited the response of the Jerks to just a single run and then proceeded to bust open the game with a lucky seven spot and were sitting pretty with a comfortable lead, or so they thought. The Jerks brought together some of their classic magic that allowed them to score seven runs of their own to immediately close the gap back to a single run. A stunned Stirista looked on as the Jerks executed a superb shut down inning not giving Stirista any momentum which lead to the bottom half of the inning and a clock that was running short of time. In the bottom half, they continued their momentum and got to scoring again, and by the time that second run had crossed the plate, time had run out on Stirista’s chances. The Jerks dealt a major blow to premium playoff seeding and reigned supreme on this Monday night. With one more week to go in the regular season it’s do or die for many bubble teams. The excitement will boil over next Monday, until then…cheers!
