Trying to Catch the Batted Balls! (Monday’s)

After last week’s short evening courtesy of Mother Nature, teams were eager to get through a full night of games. As the playoffs approach in two weeks, teams are desperately battling for the top playoff positions. Two of those teams highlighted the night with a high scoring duel on the diamond and by the end of the night, they definitely filled out their fit bits as the teams combined for thirty runs.

Good News Squirrels payed a visit to the defending champion Scoregasms. Both teams will tell you this game was anything but pretty, yet both teams were making plays to keep each other in the game. The Squirrels flew out of the gate and knocked Scoregasms back for five runs in the top of the first. While Scoregasms were down right away, they were anything but out and they swing back at Good News Squirrels with four runs of their own to immediately close the gap, only to be outdone by another five runs from the Squirrels to pace their second inning. Scoregasms once again battled back this time matching the Squirrels five runs with five of their own to bring the deficit back to a single run. Doing anything they could to shake Scoregasms, Good News Squirrels once again lead an all-out attack in the third inning this time more than matching their first two inning totals with six runs. Yet, Scoregasms again started the bottom half of the inning with a few runs but were unable to match the Squirrels total and the deficit four stood at t runs entering the final inning as time was expiring. Finally Scoregasms were able to silence the bats of Good News Squirrels, or perhaps the Squirrels were just getting fatigued. In any case, Scoregasms got some early base-runners, but were also running out of outs at a time in which the Squirrels were happy to trade a run for an out. In the end, that was their undoing and despite a pair of runs, time and outs ran out on Scoregasms’ perfect season, falling 16-14 to the Good News Squirrels. The hard fought victory was celebrate with their fans as they toasted toasted to a win with many Michelob Ultra cans being tossed around and the Texas country blaring on the speakers. The final week of the regular season comes next week and many teams will be scoreboard watching as pivotal games will decide the following week’s playoff matches. Cheers!
