A picture-perfect evening made for a great night for a ballgame, or eight. That’s just what we got Monday night at Rusty Lyons as the home stretch of the spring season took place with the playoffs looming in just a couple of short weeks!
This week we got to see a team fully embrace the social scene. With just enough players to field a team, Big Brown Stix were able to jump out of the gate with four runs in the top of the first against a highly energetic Pain Balls. While giving up four runs in the top of the first might make some teams feel blue, these Pain Balls showed poise and control as they not only matched Big Brown Stix with four runs of their own, they added two runs to that total to take the lead heading into the top of the second inning. Not being taken aback themselves, Big Brown Stix kept their bats as hot as the fire going on their grill. Running a marathon around the bases and capitalizing on mistakes by Pain Balls, their lucky number was seven as they grabbed the lead back and were able to limit the damage in the bottom half only allowing four runs to Pain Balls. After adding two more runs in the top of the third they finally silenced the Pain Balls bats and their chances of a comeback. Big Brown Stix held on for the win and celebrated in grand style with a bbq and some cold ones as they enjoyed seeing their fellow social leaguers duke it out on the diamond. The final in this one, 13-10.
